When Anna Hartley’s husband, Henry, calls her with a terrible, guilty confession, she can’t believe what she hears. It has to be a bad joke—the mild, predictable artist she married would never hurt a fly, let alone commit murder. On an ordinary Monday morning, Ariel Cafferty's phone buzzes with a disturbing text message. Something’s happened. I need to see you. Meet me under the candelabra tree ASAP. The words would be jarring from anyone, but the sender is the only man she ever loved. And it's been several years since she learned he died. Seeing Drew’s name pop up is heart-stopping. Ariel’s gut says it can’t be real. But she goes to the tree anyway. She has to. Nobody shows.

Story
From the outside, Alicia, Jessica and Norah might seem like ordinary women you'd meet on the street any day of the week. Sure, Jessica has a little OCD and Norah has some anger issues. And Alicia has low self-esteem that manifests itself in surprising ways. But these three have a bond that no one can fully understand. It's a bond that takes them back decades, to when they were girls, and they lived on a farm with a foster mother named Miss Fairchild. Miss Fairchild had rules. Miss Fairchild could be unpredictable. And Miss Fairchild was never, ever to be crossed.

Publisher's summary
From the critically acclaimed and New York Times best-selling author of When No One Is Watching comes a riveting thriller about the new caretaker of a historic estate who finds herself trapped on an island with a murderer—and the ghosts of her past.
Years after a breakdown and a diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder derailed her historical preservationist career, Kenetria Nash and her alters have been given a second chance they can’t refuse: a position as resident caretaker of a historic home. Having been dormant for years, Ken has no idea what led them to this isolated Hudson River island, but she’s determined not to ruin their opportunity.
Then a surprise visit from the home’s conservation trust just as a Nor’easter bears down on the island disrupts her newfound life, leaving Ken trapped with a group of possibly dangerous strangers—including the man who brought her life tumbling down years earlier. When he turns up dead, Ken is the prime suspect.
Caught in a web of secrets and in a race against time, Ken and her alters must band together to prove their innocence and discover the truth of Kavanaugh Island—and their own past—or they risk losing not only their future, but their life.

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Story
Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

Great narration and read
Kenetria has been diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder and after being dormant for 6 years she wakes up to find one of her alters accepted a job at a castle on an isolated Hudson River Island. Not wanting to ruin anything she moves forward with the job but upon arrival to the island she quickly finds out the job isn’t what they were expecting.
I honestly had no idea what to expect from this book, I just knew I wanted to give a thriller a try but was low key scared at the same time because I hate thriller and horror movies especially with ghosts. But I then thought it won’t be that bad reading it. Well, I walked around jumpy for a few days and endured my husband making fun of me for it just to make it through this book, but it did not disappoint.
I listened to the audiobook while working and quickly determined this book needed my full attention because there was so much going on between Ken’s alters and the creepy remote castle on the island. When Celeste told Ken she needed to leave the island I found myself yelling at the book like I do any black person on a thriller movie…like get your black butt back on that boat sis. I would of swam off that Island if I had to. But anyway, I enjoyed how the story unfolded and could not seem to stop listening despite how scared I was the entire time.
I have been putting off reading When No One Is Watching but quickly went to request the audiobook when I finished this one because Alyssa Cole has me hooked now. If you are in the mood for something a little different, I highly recommend this book. You will have to allow yourself to get lost in this book because it can get a little confusing with all of Ken’s alters. I quickly got used to all the characters and found myself being entertained while on edge trying to wait for the story to unfold.

The confusion between the head mates
The story line was good. It was a little slow starting but not so slow that I would stop reading it. I feel that the narrator should have given Solomon a different more manly voice. Also in the early going of the book it was hard to remember which head mate was what , in the future for the audio maybe the author should include a character cart or pdf. I enjoyed the book and thought it was a good read.

Great audio performance, story was okay
I loved the diversity in this book! From AA women addressing mental health to queer representation. However, the story got a little confusing towards the end and the ending felt rushed. Great audio performance from the reader! The different voice styles were unique and it made it easy to differentiate between characters.
