"Spine-tingling fun." —People

“Lisa Unger, you’ve done it again.” —Sarah Michelle Gellar, Emmy Award-winning actress

A couple inherits an apartment with a spine-tingling past in this unputdownable thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six.

Rosie and Chad Lowan are barely making ends meet in New York City when they receive life-changing news: Chad’s late uncle has left them his luxury apartment at the historic Windermere in glamorous Murray Hill. With its prewar elegance and impeccably uniformed doorman, the building is the epitome of old New York charm. One would almost never suspect the dark history lurking behind its perfectly maintained facade.

At first, the building and its eclectic tenants couldn’t feel more welcoming. But as the Lowans settle into their new home, Rosie starts to suspect that there’s more to the Windermere than meets the eye. Why is the doorman ever-present? Why are there cameras everywhere? And why have so many gruesome crimes occurred there throughout the years? When one of the neighbors turns up dead, Rosie must get to the truth about the Windermere before she, too, falls under its dangerous spell.

Good

Story was good performance was good. Overall, enjoyable and entertaining, I feel like the author could do without the gratuitous sex passages. It doesn’t add anything to the story, and frankly it kind of cheapens it. But overall it was a good book I liked it.

A little bit of Rosemary’s Baby mixed with The Shining

The story was great, the narrator was excellent. A little bit of suspense, horror and mystery with a bit of supernatural happenings equals a very good read.

The narrator

Vivienne Lehaney is my favorite narrator. She is so talented, does so many voices and does men so well. I listen to everything she has narrated. Lisa Unger is obviously very intelligent and knows how to put together an unputdownable thriller. I’m not a fan of the paranormal, but she us a master at the domestic psychological thriller that is perfect for a long car ride, house cleaning, and errands, but the underlying intelligence of her novels resonate and are not geared toward listeners satisfied with ordinary junk

The similarity to Rosemary’s Baby

I felt like so much of this book was taken from Rosemary’s Baby. The setting, Charles and Ella, Chad’s profession, the soup, the pregnancy, the necklaces. It was not original writing. Now, if you haven’t watched Rosemary’s Baby multiple times like I have then you may like this book just fine.

Similar Premises of Park Avenue 666 & Rosemary’s Baby

*** 3.5 Stars ⭐️ 🌟⭐️🌟 Rounded Up ***

So, I am a big fan of Park Avenue 666, Rosemary’s Baby, and The Apartment…all of these came to mind when I began reading The New Couple in 5B. The premise is similar, nothing too new or outstanding. This story encompasses the supernatural, psychological thriller, gaslighting, etc. There are “twists “ I saw coming from a mile away and those that I didn’t. Overall, I am rounding up to 4 stars because it most certainly kept me entertained and wanting to know more.

Good storyline

i liked the overall concept... storyline. For my personal taste, it got too into the weeds on smaller details that weren't necessary & Rosie's character was too "wimpy."

Now I wanna go to NYC

I absolutely loved this book. It kept me reading and wanting just a little bit more each time to the point I was wearing my ear buds everywhere including next to my daughter while she slept and I scratched her back. The narrator does the book no justice, it sounds like Siri or Alexa is reading to you, but, if you can get passed that man o man you’re in for a treat! Will be re-reading this!

Horrible narrator

The narrator's voice did not seem to match the character at all. I struggled to even finish, the story dragged on and was very predictable.
