Story
It’s two months before Amelia’s big audition for the Mystwick School of Musicraft. If she gets in, she will learn to spin music into powerful magic - but her Gran has one last-ditch plan to persuade her out of it: sports camp. A week of softball, sprinting, and sweaty socks isn't exactly Amelia’s idea of a good time - in fact, she's deeply, appallingly unathletic. By the end of day one, she’s puked her guts out in track, gotten a black eye in no-contact flag football, and firmly established herself as the Least Valuable Player at camp.

The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Pleasure to listen to! It's even hard to actually pause when you have to. Nice reading. Only downside: When Viva's thoughts are read, the volume is too low. In the car, it's barely distinguishable what's being said. If it wasn't for that, full score!

Cute Spunky and Engaging
This is clearly a pre-teen/teen read but this 40 (ahem)-year old thoroughly enjoyed it. I was just as curious as a 14-year-old to know the end. I also made note to try to find some of the spots mentioned as I got a feeling they are very real places in New Orleans. If not, then it will be my mystery to solve (or not).
