Publisher's summary

After listening to this audiobook, you will:

  • Know what virtual Medicare pitfalls exist, and how to avoid them expertly.
  • Be ready to make the significant Medicare decisions.
  • Be knowledgeable about the costly penalties and how to steer clear.

As a Medicare expert and founder at Real Easy Medicare, Al has spent the last 35 years helping thousands of Medicare beneficiaries learn how to navigate their entry into Medicare. His goal has always been to make entry into Medicare and the enrollment process easier for ordinary Americans.

This is no small task, as most Americans spend their entire working lives having their healthcare plans chosen by their employers. Now suddenly, they must try to make sense of a substantial national healthcare program with four parts, 10 supplements, and thousands of plan options.

To make matters worse, Medicare beneficiaries who get it wrong upfront can find themselves paying penalties they don't deserve and being trapped in plans that don't fit their needs, lifestyle, or budget.

This audiobook guides new beneficiaries through the critical decisions they'll need to make at the beginning of their journey while helping them expertly avoid the most common and costly mistakes that new beneficiaries often make.

Excellent information

This book is easy to follow and well written. I wish I had had this information before I signed up for Medicare. It makes it very clear as to what the different types of programs are available and what a person might be eligible for.

An essential guide to Medicare

Virtual Medicare by Al Kushner is an essential read for anyone approaching 65 years old, with a qualifying disability, or if you support a family member in these circumstances. Mr. Kushner is an expert on the subject, having assisted people with understanding the Medicare application process and their options since the 1980s; he’s a true guru of the topic, and an excellent guide and communicator.

I began with the audiobook, but I quickly realized I would also need a desk copy for it to fulfill my needs. My parents are approaching retirement age and have been worried about the Medicare process, which is far more complex than it should be, in my opinion. Thankfully, Mr. Kushner is there to guide us through it. The audiobook wasn’t a bad idea for someone like myself who wanted to orient to the process and understand the basics of what to know and what to consider. The narrator held my interest, despite the dry subject matter. I now know which topics I need to explore more fully when my desk copy arrives.

In audiobook form, the writing seems repetitious, but this is actually a good thing. Several points are worth repeating, and if you use it as a desk manual as you should, you need to find the right information wherever you turn to in the book. The writing is simple, straightforward, and accessible to varying reading levels. The author walks you through all of the considerations you should make when signing up for Medicare, choosing your coverage, and deciding about additional programs and services. He directs you to other resources as well and tells you how to contact him for further assistance.

Mr. Kushner’s central message is clear: Mistakes in navigating the Medicare process can be costly, both to your bank account and to your health by limiting access to health services you need. When it’s time for my parents to apply, I’ll be right by their side, book in hand, helping them make the best decisions for their future. The book opened my eyes to topics such as advantage plans, Medigap coverage, supplement plans, drug plans, late enrollment penalties, and open enrollment. If you don’t fully understand these topics already, please purchase this book.

Very Necessary Information

If you are 65 or older or you are the caregiver for someone 65 or older, this is a must read/listen. Although some of the information was repetitive, it was still all very good and valuable information.

Very informative !

I tuned into audiobook Virtual Medicate to listen to Al Kushner talk about the perks and drawbacks of Telehealth. He spoke of how it reduces costs, gives people in remote areas access to healthcare, and alleviates the burden of travel. However, he also pointed out safety concerns around quality of care, out-of-pocket expenses, lack of provider accountability, and patient rights. Then, he went on to explain additional topics such as Metigap programs for coverage gaps, PAC programs for community-based care, medication management programs with changes to plans via SEPs, and more. Overall, the information presented was very informative and a must read.
