Brave, insightful, and helpful

I didn’t expect a book on trauma to trigger so much hope. "Unbroken: The Trauma Response is Never Wrong" is a well-written primer on trauma that is a quicker, easier to read than "The Body Keeps the Score" with equally useful content. She distills how the brain processes trauma in a brief but understandable couple pages, explains the impacts of trauma, and provides practical tools for coping with and healing trauma. I finished the book feeling stunned and uplifted by the author’s insight and bravery. A must read for everyone.

Phenomenal Read

I now have more profound insight on what trauma is and how it affects us. I don't feel so fearful and now have hope that I can heal. The author explained everything thoroughly and the exercises were incredibly helpful. I recommend this book to anyone suffering from trauma and PTSD. It will give you a better understanding of trauma, triggers, and the hope that you can heal and that you aren't alone in your battle. Thank you so much!

I never read a book twice-but this one!

I’ve been studying trauma and it’s effects on our brain, relationships, and self concept for over 10 years. This book is invaluable. The information is cutting edge relevant and easily accessible. I love the author’s narration and am still reeling with all the good good info I’m so excited to apply in my life, my business, and my healing modality (Untherapy)-this is a MUST READ for anyone who is interested in understanding themselves or others more deeply.

Life Changing - MUST Read on Trauma

Please excuse the possibly less than articulate review of this book as I still have a tear or two leaking from my eyes as this book ends, not just for the beautiful closing story but for the entire book.
First, I don't normally love when authors narrate their own books because they do not make good narrators; however, MaryCatherine (MC) does a wonderful job narrating this book, and I would happily listen to her narrations in the future. Her voice is calming which is perfect for the topic being discussed. I did listen at 1.5 speed, but that's my normal speed for audiobooks. Lastly, she was clear and truly easy on the ears to listen to.
Second, as far as the content of the book, I am absolutely blown away. As someone who has done a lot of work on healing my own trauma but always struggles with feeling like I can't quite TRULY get rid of it, like it keeps rearing it's ugly head in situations that remotely resemble aspects of the original trauma, I go into total helpless mode without even being able to stop it. I lose ability to speak, I just stand there and go into disassociation / shut down mode. So talk therapy hasn't helped, what's left? What's wrong with me? MC finally answers that question! She goes into why those traumas still come up, and she gives tips and tools to start working through those mixed into the stories she uses to illustrate common trauma types.
I am excited to go forward, working on applying these techniques to my every day life, and I will definitely be following MC to keep up with anything she may release in the future.

For right time in healing.

This book has some wonderful insight. it's great for when you're in the midst of a latter part of your healing path. I don't think trauma is going to be put away the way that she was afraid of.

Validating useful book

MC does a fantastic job of validating our experiences while helping us understand our brain and the social context our traumas are held in by others.
