The Holistic Psychologist
On February 8, 2013, I was a highly anxious and burned-out 52-year-old physician. That night, as I left my clinic in my usual chronic state of anxiety, I wondered if life was worth living. But I had to be onstage as a stand-up comedian an hour later, so killing myself would have to wait. However, I never got to the comedy club. I suffered an injury that night that would end my medical career.
I’ve dealt with anxiety since I was a teenager. My father was schizophrenic and bipolar, and the chaos and pain of his illness created tremendous alarm in my system. My mother did her best to love and take care of my brother and me, but she had her own issue with chronic anxiety. I often say my mother was neurotic and my father was psychotic, so my psyche didn’t stand much of a chance!
I wrote this book to make my father’s eventual suicide and the suffering of my family mean something: to help others like me who experienced chronic worry to understand and fix the pain that was sucking the life out of their lives. I have degrees and advanced training in medicine, neuroscience, and developmental psychology, but much of what I’ll share with you came out of my experiences in very unscientific places.
This book is unique in its blend of hard neuroscience and soft spirit. For over 30 years, I searched for relief from anxiety and saw over 50 practitioners ranging from Indian shamanic energy healers to highly accomplished psychiatrists. (I was lucky I was a doctor so I could afford to be a patient.) Have you, too, gone to extraordinary lengths to resolve your chronic compulsion to worry and are still suffering? Listen on. What makes this book different is its relentless focus on calming anxiety at its true source, which I will share with you in detail. That source is in a place most doctors and psychologists fail to explore, and that oversight is why the positive effects of most anxiety therapies tend to wear off over time.
Although I’ll talk about my patient’s experiences with anxiety as well as my own, everything within these chapters has been vetted, explored, and applied to my own life. The ideas and practices are unique, novel, and effective. This is my life’s work and the ultimate book of high-impact solutions for escaping the trap of chronic worry. I truly do not want you to suffer as I have!
I’ve gone from being a hapless victim of my anxiety, never knowing when it would end, to having a path that helps me every single time anxiety comes up. The most helpful Rx prescription I’ve taken for my anxiety disorder
At first looking at the title, I was skeptical about this book. I tried its sample and immediately felt hey it seemed to touch an area that the anxious mind struggles with.
Half way through the book, I started feeling it’s healing medicinal effects on my anxious mind.
Equipped with similar childhood trauma, I have been forcing myself to push ahead and excel, or feel I’m surviving amidst the panic or anxiety attacks and constantly fearful guards I instinctively needed for myself to survive life.
After I completed listening to all 109 chapters, I finally saw that innocent little child inside me came out asking me to pay attention to and love her from her physical needs as a starter.
I’m deeply grateful for the author who’s willing to place himself inside/out in front of people who need the path of light to see where, when, and what our fears and anxieties are rooted.
This is indeed an Rx book for people who bops up and down, pulled here and there by worries, anxious thoughts, and fear.
Best of all, I personally find all what the author says and promotes are consistent with faith rooted in Bible.
I personally view Dr Kennedy as a successful messenger who effectively brought the message of healing and light I need for a fresh restart.

If you get one book, get this one!
So many concepts in this book were new to me. I’ve been dealing with anxiety and panic attacks for 15 years, been in talk therapy about that same time, and by far this blew my mind. I love that the chapters are short and that there is an entire part of the book on actionable steps to take. I first heard this author talk on clubhouse and was waiting for this audiobook. It did not disappoint, love his humor and the examples he gave were so relatable. Thank you!

Phenomenal too for healing anxiety.
Dr. Kennedy put into words, our ‘alarm,’ what I’ve felt for as long as I can remember.
He gives easy to understand explanations and super simple techniques to really heal and tend to yourself instead of pushing things down and away.
Thank you for writing this book Dr. Kennedy, it’s changing my life and the lives of my life coaching clients!

I can’t thank you enough
After two nervous breakdowns and almost a lifetime of anxiety I have finally found a resource that immediately gave me some relief. I have read numerous books on anxiety from science based to spiritual perspectives that haven’t given me what this book has. I wish I could have read it sooner.

Very helpful
I suffer from anxiety and Dr Russell help me find out many things about my life that were basic in my path through healing myself
I believe I’m much better after reading it,

Must Read for anyone afflicted with anxiety/alarm.
This book has massively changed my life. Finally, a book that actually tells you HOW to deal with anxiety, instead of just listing research studies that show how awareness is key to relief, like the other books do. Russell references a few other books in this one and most of them are well aligned with his work, with my favorites by Michael Singer. Anxiety RX made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me wonder, and take action. Easy as ABC, with a large dose of tenacity to achieve the best results. There is so much good stuff in here, you must read it several times to catch and retain every nugget of goodness! I appreciate that some of the more important aspects of the process are re-explained a bit differently for clarity. Russel has a great voice, he’s funny, and sounds like a kind compassionate human being. He feels like a dear friend.

This is a MUST READ!
This book has changed my life. Deepest gratitude to Dr. Kennedy. I'm sharing it with all my friends and family. Even though it was 109 chapters.....I didn't want it to end!!! There is so many nuggets of truth and LIGHT BULB moments! I will reread many sections so I can truly grasp the depth of his uncover truth to anxiety and worry that no other book has done for me.
