Este libro provee la historia de una familia dominicana que emigra a los EEUU y el afecto que tiene en sus cuatro hijas. Hay cuentos del punto de vista de las cuatro en épocas diferentes de sus vidas. Empieza con los años más recientes y sigue hacia el pasado. Aunque me gustaron los cuentos cortitos, no me gustó la presentación con el tiempo al revés. Tampoco me gustó la falta de cierre de los problemas de la familia. Entiendo que uno de los temas es la división entre las dos culturas, pero me gustan más los libros que tienen resolución a sus problemas.
