De Erasmusbrug krijgt 28 jaar na de opening groot onderhoud. Een van de mooiste iconen van Rotterdam wordt schoongemaakt en krijgt een nieuwe verflaag in 2024. In de maanden vóór het onderhoud onderzocht de gemeente hoe er op een positieve manier begrip voor de werkzaamheden en de mogelijke overlast gevraagd zou kunnen worden. Uit het onderzoek kwam naar voren dat mensen tijdens hun oversteek graag meer te weten wilden komen over de geschiedenis van de brug, de werkzaamheden en over haar (natuurlijke) omgeving.
