Once again, we see Poe's common theme of "the death of a beautiful woman," but he goes beyond that in this tale. "Death isn't merely the end here. In a haunting tale of a wife's passing, we also have elements of black magic, communication beyond the grave, and even the idea of transcending death itself to return to this earth in another form."
