Publisher's summary

Monsters are real.

When I was five years old, I watched my mother take her last breath—a breath three monsters stole from her.

I never chose this life. My father says it's my birthright, but all I see is a curse. It's because of the Kelly name my mum was slain by the Doyles—our enemies in Dublin, the fellas livin' on borrowed time.

All of Belfast fears my family, especially me. I'm Puck Kelly, otherwise known as Punky; the lad ye don't want to double-cross. I don't do feelings or emotions. I never have . . . until she walks into my world.

Babydoll is a liar and a thief, but I can't stay away. We both thrive in the darkness because that's where our demons can play.

No word af a lie, sixteen years later, those monsters still haunt my dreams. But every monster is scared of somethin' . . . and that somethin' is me. No more hiding in the shadows because I'm huntin' youse. Run, wee monsters, run.

Contains mature themes.

Dark Irish Mafia

I read this book through audible, which I'm going to highly recommend. Once I started the audible, I tried to read it and it was not the same. The audible is fantastic.

My first Monica James book, and I will absolutely be continuing this series. I loved everything about this story. I will warn you it, it is dark so please read your trigger warnings. There are a lot of secrets tied up in the story. The author would give you just a little and then leave you with more questions. But it was just enough to keep you turning the page. The overall storyline is very well planned out and there are twist and turns throughout. Even though Punky (MMC) is a broken and secretive morally grey character, I still felt the character development was on point. Even knowing there are two more books in the series, the ending had me thinking it was the end of the line for some of these characters. But then there are more secrets revealed and more to come from the story. There are some spicy scenes, but I would not suggest this to be overly spicy. They could have been left out and the story would still hold. The are a nice added touch.

Great story but the male narrator ruined it.

I really enjoy the story and thought it would be more powerful listening to it but I was wrong. The male narrator had no emotion with this powerful story. He just read the book. I was expecting to feel sadness, lust, anger, frustration but the male narrator had none of that. The story is good and deserved to be told with emotion. The female narrator was good and you could feel her emotion in her tone. Stinks that I didn't get the full effect from the male narrator as that was important with this story.
