Publisher's summary

As Rune Saint John grapples with the challenges of assuming the Sun Throne, a powerful barrier appears around New Atlantis’ famed rejuvenation center. But who could have created such formidable magic...what do they want from the immortality clinic...and what remains of the dozens trapped inside?

Though Rune and his lifelong bodyguard, Brand, are tasked with investigating the mysterious barrier, Rune is also busy settling into his new life at court. Claiming his father’s throne has irrevocably thrown him into the precarious world of political deception, and he must secure relationships with newfound allies in time to keep his growing found family safe. His relationship with his lover, Addam Saint Nicholas, raises additional political complications they must navigate. But he and Brand soon discover that the power behind the barrier holds a much more insidious, far-reaching threat to his family, to his people, and to the world.

Now, the rulers of New Atlantis must confront an enemy both new and ancient as the flow of time itself is drawn into the conflict. And as Rune finds himself inexorably drawn back to the fall of his father’s court and his own torture at the hands of masked conspirators, the secrets that he has long guarded will be dragged into the light—changing the Sun Throne, and New Atlantis, forever.

The climax of the first trilogy in the nine-book Tarot Sequence, The Hourglass Throne delivers epic urban fantasy that blends humor, fast-paced action, and political intrigue.

I love these books very much. So much adventure and magic but the relationships of all shapes and sizes are what make them excellent. They grow and change along with the characters - just like in real life - which is rare in adventure books, at least the LGBTQ ones I read. I counted down the days until this book and now I’m low key dying for the next one. Deep breaths…

this book is the best of the three!

I loved this book - definitely the most mature of the three! the writing flowed very nicely, I loved the addition to the world building and the villain was great. I was hooked the whole time! only thing is that I wish Adam and Rune's relationship was just a bit more touched upon. Rune and Brand have a lot more chemistry together, so I would've liked to see Adam and Rune more to make the relationship make a bit more sense. other than that, great book! I am excited to see what else this author has in store for us.

Good but

It’s not bad, but the first book was still better. It’s better than the second book by leagues but I still wish the author kept the tone of the first book it was a lot more mature, and raw

Too many characters and no time for reflection and character development

There is a lot going on the action is ramped up from the get go. Then once all the plot elements are resolved through action there’s a montage of character interaction that made me wish the book could have delved into the relationships more throughout. Because there’s so much action, all the meaningful character interaction is told to us at the end and never shown. It’s all fine and pretty enjoyable but it really made me wish the author dove deeper. Narrator is amazing as with all the books.

I absolutely loved everything about this book, this entire series in fact. Any review I give will simply not do it justice. Please read it! Then you will see why I am acting like this about it!

The tower

In the interest of not spoiling this book let me just say it's amazing and finding out more about the Tower was just cute. I hope the next book involves some events that still needed tied up here like who is the woman in the last chapter.

Another stellar book

What can I say other than this book series is oned of my all time favorites. Hard to choose what my favorite parts are between the characters, relationships, and urban fantasy magic.

This was the final in the first trilogy and it hits HARD, but the tense moments and sad moments are well balanced with funny and sweet ones as well.

Josh Hurley absolutely nails it, just an incredible narrator! If this series were to ever get animated I would want him to do all the voices for every character since he gives them so much life!

10/10 and I can't wait for what's in store next!

Love the story, but…

Seriously, it’s a great story and I can’t wait for the next one in the series. However, the narrator has decided to take some voices in a different direction than the previous two books. I don’t hate it, but I preferred the original accents.
