Ranka is tired of death. All she wants now is to be left alone, living out her days in Witchik’s wild north with the coven that raised her, attempting to forget the horrors of her past. But when she is named Bloodwinn, the next treaty bride to the human kingdom of Isodal, her coven sends her south with a single directive: kill him. Easy enough, for a blood-witch whose magic compels her to kill. Except the prince is gentle, kind, and terrified of her. He doesn’t want to marry Ranka; he doesn’t want to be king at all.

It's the first summer after his parents' divorce, and he hasn't exactly been seeking alone time with his dad. He doesn't have a choice, though, so he goes...and on his first day takes a walk on the beach and finds himself intrigued by a boy his age running by. Eventually, he and Runner Boy (Evan) meet--and what starts out as friendship blooms into something neither boy is expecting... and also something both boys have been secretly hoping for.

Relatable and appropriate for tweens.
I’m 44 years old and was closeted when I was in high school, terrified someone would find out. I related to the main character’s experience. I recommended this book to my friend whose daughter is 11 and questioning her sexuality. It’s clean, adventurous, fantastic, and meaningful.

A great coming-out-of the-closet story
A wonderful take on coming out of the closet, and being worried about others opinion. It’s like if you mixed realistic fiction and fantasy. With an unrealistic girl- *SPOILER* who is a seal?! But a realistic couple in the sense of Morgan wanting to keep it a secret that they were in love. It’s a very sweet and cute. I’m so glad that I got it, I love the characters. The narration is beautiful and all the voice actors are amazing. LGBTQ+ perfection.
