A small Kansas town has turned into a killing ground. Is it a serial killer, a man with the need to destroy?

Or is it a darker force, a curse upon the land?

Amid golden cornfields, FBI Special Agent Pendergast discovers evil in the blood of America's heartland.

No one is safe.

Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Dark

I was unhappy with the portrayal of the handicapped person especially with the unlikely ending

Slow

All Preston and Child Books are good. To me they have an excessive amount of superfluous detail and it would be nice if they were about 2/3 as long. Still I can’t stop listening to them at 1.25 or hidgher

One of the better Pendergast novels

Love this story. Shows the human side of Pendergast at the end. One of the better written and full story in one book novels.

For Pendergast fans

If you love the Pendergast series, this one doesn’t disappoint.
I wouldn’t recommend spending the extra on the book track, the background sounds are not necessarily adding to the book content.

Murder in Medicine Creek

This was book 4 in the Pendergast series. It continues the amazing partnership of Preston and Child. Both fantastic authors individually, they are magic together. This book finds Pendergast in the sticks, in vacation, to solve a disturbing murder mystery. They perfectly capture the spirit and essence of a dying small town, from the atmosphere, the weather and the populace. This investigation also confounds Psndergast, since it is like no other. We also meet lovely Corrie Swanson, a young Goth girl with guts. The protagonist is quite a twist. It is a tense thrill ride, magnificently narrated by Scott Brick. Hours of juicy Pendergast goodness that I just didn't want to end, and what an ending!

Excellent story, annoying background music

I love the Pendergast stories, and this one is excellent: an air of creepiness, a bizarre mystery to solve, and the calm, enigmatic Agent Pendergast methodically assembling the pieces to a puzzle. Scott Brick, as usual, brings an edgy, dramatic tone that propels the story and makes you want to keep listening.

My complaint with this book is in the production. Rather than let Preston and Child's narrative and Brick's interpretation of the characters come through in their compelling way, the producers laced the story with annoying background music. Doing this at the end or beginning of a scene can be effective. This time, though, the music ran constantly, detracting from the story and weakening the book overall. The effect was like putting catsup on an excellent cake.
