Over the twenty-four years she was enslaved on the Montgomery Plantation, Louella learned to feel one thing: hate. Hate for the man who sold her mother. Hate for the overseer who left her daddy to hang from a noose. Hate so powerful there's no room in her heart for love, not even for the honorable Reverend William, whom she likes and respects enough to marry.

Publisher's summary
The recipe for forgiveness begins with an open heart and a full belly.
Sisters Rose Tillman and her sister Marvina Nash haven't spoken in decades—not since Rose sent Marvina $40 to register their business and Marvina used that money for her own personal purposes. Now retired, Rose wants to open the restaurant they'd once dreamed of. But, to her horror, Rose realizes she's forgotten their mother's secret spice mix recipe, known to only one other person in the world.
With no other option, Rose embarks on a two-hour drive to Marvina's house back in Fork City, Texas. Marvina has her own version of what caused their falling out, and it's a far cry from what Rose recalls. Marvina, skeptical and still indignant, but incurably polite, figures she'll give Rose a chance to speak her piece before closing the door in her face.
As the sisters fight their way to forgiveness, they unpack their complicated past, form an unexpected alliance with a young mother-to-be, and reconnect through the tantalizing aroma of chicken dinners that hold the power to heal—or divide—a community.
In a tale rich with Southern charm, Rose and Marvina discover through fussing, laughter, and tears that the secret ingredient to a bright future might just be found in facing who they are today—and in forgiving the past to embrace a second chance at sisterhood.
Critic reviews
"A charming novel about sisterhood, regrets, and second chances … an utter delight from start to finish."—Terah Shelton Harris, author of One Summer in Savannah

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Reconciliation
I loved the storyline for all of the characters. The reconciliation of relationships between sisters after decades of estrangement. Examples of how misunderstandings hurt relationships. Impact on one's life by not following their dreams. Also, how much we really need relationships (family and friends). And, being open to new relationships.
Michelle Stimpson really knows how to capture a story. I have enjoyed her writings over the years. I was introduced to her by my favorite cousin.

Prickly Seasoned Love
Just all kinds goodness in this book. I love how the author explored the complex relationships not only between Rose and Marvina, but also with the people in their lives. Marvina's relationship with God and Rose's relationship with David added another layer of conflict that kept me riveted to the end. Susan Spain was a phenomenal narrator for this story. She really brought these characters to life.

"Sisters with a Side of Greens" by Michelle Stimpson
My Thoughts:
'Sisters with a Side of Greens' is a well-written book that sometimes makes readers laugh and even tear up. From the read, one can see how the read brought out what happened between these two sisters, Rose and Marvina, which made them act as they did toward one another. And seeing how their mother brought on a lot of anger between the two girls had me shaking my head.
With Rose wanting her mom's recipe for this unique spice and only her sister Marvina being able to give it to her, we can see how Rose had no choice but to confront her sister about it. The story is mainly about what will happen with this. Also, will these sisters be able to finally talk and see what the problem was that caused all this rip with them not being able to get along over the years? There will be a lot going on in this story, and one will find out about these two sisters. Their lifestyle, death in the family, husbands, exes, children...[dead and alive], and even helping a young girl with what was going on in her life.
Be ready for a soulful read that will keep you turning the pages to see what is next for these two sisters and a few other interesting characters from the minister, ex, and others.
I loved the ending, especially how they [the sisters] came up with the appropriate name for this unique seasoning. Were these sisters now getting along?
If you are looking for a story about family, southern home cooking, exciting side characters, and, above all, a Spice that only one person had..then you have come to the right place to get it all.
To get all of the story, you must pick up 'Sisters with a Side of Greens' to see how well this author tells it all to the reader.
Yes, I recommend this novel to you.

A Delicious Education on Redemption
Beautiful story of love and rédemption! I love the journey these sisters take with the help of a pregnant teenage girl full of wisdom and love. In the process of helping her, she opens their eyes to breaking down barriers of prejudice, judgment, i forgiveness, and redemption. Well written and developed. I found the use of the seasonings so enticing that when the author visited my book club i inquired about the possibility of purchasing them. She provided the link and i did! It gave a full connection to the book and really gave more life to the story hearing how she developed it.

Great read! Rich with wonderful nuggets of truth!
There were so many nuggets of truth in this book that made you think about the importance of building on the future instead of digging up and wallowing in past hurts, failures, and shortcomings of yourself and others. It shared the importance of dealing with the healing of deep wounds so that others can also be healed. I laughed, cried, was sad, and happy. I processed through so many emotions! This was a great read!
