Publisher's summary
In a fascinating tale of long-lost family ties, Miss Elizabeth Bennet finds herself face-to-face with her father after years of separation. The reunion sparks a whirlwind of conflicting sentiments as Elizabeth grapples with the daunting task of reconciling her past with her present. The challenges ahead loom large, requiring her to summon every ounce of strength and resilience she possesses.
Amid the tangled web of complicated family dynamics, one person remains steadfast by Elizabeth's side—Mr. Darcy. Their bond, forged through their shared upbringing at the illustrious Pemberley estate, is an open secret. Yet, as their connection deepens, doubts begin to emerge, and whispers of criticism surface. Some question the boundaries of their relationship, pondering if their closeness defies the conventions of propriety.
While Elizabeth courageously navigates the maze of familial obligations, she finds herself at a crucial crossroads. Will Mr. Darcy, her devoted companion, stand resolutely beside her as they face the trials ahead? Or will the winds of change and the manipulations of others conspire to tear them apart?

Story
This novella of about 27,000 words takes place five years after Lydia Bennet’s elopement and the subsequent ruin of her family. When Elizabeth attempts to rescue Lydia from her life as a courtesan, she is herself mistaken as a woman of ill-repute by Mr. Darcy and his cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam, leading to an amusing tangle when she gains the attention of both gentlemen. This is a sweet, low angst Regency romance with no explicit intimacy and a Christian moral. Note: This book was originally published in 2021. It has been reedited, but the story is not materially changed from the original.

One warning, two cautions, and a note: WARNING: In deference to a truth universally acknowledged that men do not behave the same when no women are present as they do in mixed company, this vagary does have occasional uses of profanity. The men in my life would consider it amusing but naïve to afford the same semantics of conversation for wholly different circumstances such as these, or they would should one of them choose to read it. This vagary proposes an alternate telling of the original Pride and Prejudice and considers what may have happened should the characters have been afforded a ...

She thought him dead. Now only he can save their daughter. When Lady Catherine de Bourgh told Elizabeth Bennet: “And this is your real opinion! This is your final resolve! Very well. I shall now know how to act. Do not imagine, Miss Bennet, that your ambition will ever be gratified. I came to try you. I hoped to find you reasonable; but, depend upon it, I will carry my point,” no one knew how vindictive and manipulative her ladyship might prove, but Darcy and Elizabeth were about to discover the bitter truth for themselves. This is a story of true love conquering even the most dire ...

One warning, two cautions, and two notes: WARNING: Portions of this book focus on some of George Wickham’s worst crimes against young ladies. While the revenge taken is not fully or graphically detailed, it is extreme. “He had certainly formed such a plan, and without meaning that it should effect his endeavour to separate him from Miss Bennet, it is probable that it might add something to his lively concern for the welfare of his friend.” Pride & Prejudice, chapter 45 This vagary proposes an alternate path for the characters of Pride and Prejudice. This is yet another sweet, clean, low-angst Pride and Prejudice Variation. This book of 64,000 words takes Elizabeth and Darcy out of their usual circumstances and meeting places. All of the usual villains are part of the story but minimized significantly. If you enjoy a light-hearted version of Our Dear Couple’s road to Happily Ever After, this may be a book for you. Elizabeth’s unique combination of slow magical conduction and extreme magical sensitivity makes her highly effective at creating new magical inscriptions, so much so that she publishes her first one at the tender age of only eighteen with the help of her father. However, she publishes it under the name E. Bennet to avoid revealing her gender. This magical inscription, which aids in the precise sheering of sheep, caught the eye of Mr. Darcy, who happens to own an estate with over two thousand sheep. When he writes to the mysterious E. With two proposals in one day, which offer will Miss Elizabeth Bennet choose? Marriage to the first of the two men would subject her to misery of the acutest kind. Marriage to the other would be merely for the sake of avoiding a scandal. Either would serve the interests of Elizabeth's family, but what of her own wishes? Will Elizabeth reject both gentlemen's offers of marriage, especially when one of them is Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy? Will she dare to refuse such a man?

Loving rendition of Fitzwilliam and Lizzy
Lovable journey of a Pride & Prejuduce sweet variation. Always a treat to get the opportunity to read a P.O. Dixon novel. Love the various storylines offered by this author. A little shorter than I prefer but still a wonderful book to keep close for that warm, delightful feeling with Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth taking center stage.
