Publisher's summary

Best-selling sportswriter and Edgar Award winner John Feinstein is back with another sports mystery featuring Stevie Thomas and Susan Carol Anderson—this one set at the summer Olympics in London. In this book, Susan Carol isn't a reporter—she's an Olympian, competing as a swimmer at her first Olympic games. Stevie is both proud and envious of her athletic prowess. And he's worried by the agents and sponsors and media all wanting to get up close and personal with Susan Carol. But the more disturbing question becomes—how far might they go to ensure that America's newest Olympic darling wins gold?

Sports novels abound, but Feinstein's books are all stars. They combine sports action, high-stakes mysteries, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of big-time sporting events.

Critic reviews

"As in his earlier books in the series, the popular Feinstein takes readers inside a major sports venue, supplies fascinating details, and serves up a satisfying mystery." (Booklist)

"As is his wont, Feinstein salts the cast with real athletes and other figures from Michael Phelps to Bob Costas. He folds plenty of dramatic sports action as well as behind-the-scenes banter and personal and family conflict into a plot that moves smoothly to a suspenseful climax.... A fast-paced caper." Great listen with kids!

Would you consider the audio edition of Rush for the Gold: Mystery at the Olympics to be better than the print version?

My kids and I enjoyed listening to this book together, especially since it's Olympics' Time! The story was engaging and fun.

Did Josh Feinstein do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

He was an okay narrator, but could not do accents at all! I recommend not even trying the accents or getting another narrator.

Awesome book! Average narrator.

What made the experience of listening to Rush for the Gold: Mystery at the Olympics the most enjoyable?

The book had an incredible and adventurous storyline, but the narrator had little expression.

Feinstein does it again.

As with everything else written by John Feinstein this was a great listen. The author is still a surperior nonfiction author. However this selection is well worth the investment in both time and money.

OK against Olympics 2012 backdrop

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I listen while driving and this book is decent enough to keep my attention without risking saftey. I appreciated the insights into what life is for an Olympic athlete beyond the training and competition, especially the pressure to perform in order to attain high paying sponsors. I had never grasped the real money value of finishing Gold vs Silver as far as endorsements are concerned.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

While interestingly and acceptably performed, the story is fairly formulaic with all of the good guys and bad guys pretty easily identified. That said, I still found myself wanting to listen until the end.
