Publisher's summary

The incredible rags-to-riches story of acclaimed actor Brian Cox, best known as Succession’s Logan Roy, from a troubled, working-class upbringing in Scotland to a prolific career across theatre, film, and television.

From Hannibal Lecter in Manhunter to media magnate Logan Roy in HBO's Succession, Brian Cox has made his name as an actor of unparalleled distinction and versatility. We are familiar with him on screen, but few know of his extraordinary life story. Growing up in Dundee, Scotland, Cox lost his father when he was just eight years old and was brought up by his three elder sisters in the aftermath of his mother's nervous breakdowns and ultimate hospitalization. After joining the Dundee Repertory Theatre at the age of 15, you could say the rest is history - but that is to overlook the enormous effort that has gone into the making of the legend we know today.

Rich in emotion and meaning, with plenty of laughs along the way, this seminal autobiography captures both Cox's distinctive voice and his very soul.

Absolutely great

Brian not only reads his memoir but almost performs it. Period coming from the theater I imagine that’s a big part of it but I’m not sure there’s a better way to experience the score then having him read it

Intelligent, Engaging, Well Written

Brian Cox presented us a gift by writing about his long, successful acting career. The true story of inside the life of theater, movies, and directing, was both fascinating and gratifying. I felt that I was both intellectually stimulated and entertained. I would recommend the audible version, an additional treat to the ears to hear his accent and his speaking his well schooled version of the written word.

Worth it if you like succession or the stage

I didn’t appreciate Brian’s stage career until I read this. A little too much detail at times and I would’ve liked more on succession. Otherwise an entertaining listen

Thank you Mr. Cox

Thank you for reading this book to us, Mr. Cox. You were amazing and I don't know how you found the time to read your wonderful memoir.

You are always in some many movies, TV shows, BBC radio programs, McDonald's commercials, stage plays, and various and numerous other voice over works, plus time with your family and friends, and time sorting through scripts, memorizing them, getting into the characters head and doing research into the characters you play, and time in the make-up chair...I just...how did you find the time to read your book to us? I'm deeply moved by your generosity of time.

Oh...I forgot to mention the time you spent writing the book. And again, you read it to us yourself. You could have passed this book off to a narrator who had nothing to do with your life or is probably not even aware of your body of work. Would they have known Shakespeare's work as well as you do? Or cared about Michael Mann's ability to nail down a character in his screenplays? I doubt any old Joe Narrator would have treated your life experiences with the respect and authority they deserve.

When I first started listening to the book, I thought this was some Joe Narrator doing a very bad impersonation of your voice. Then, I was pleased to discover you were reading, you were the narrator. Again, you didn't have to read this book. You are a very busy actor. You have probably been in ten different movies, shows, and stage plays since the reading of your book.

I hope you will be able to read your next book to us. Thank you good sir. As they say on the stage...adieu.
