Publisher's summary

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In The Path of Daggers, the eighth novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al'Thor engages in battle wearing the Crown of Swords and wielding Callandor against a force unprepared for the wrath of the Dragon Reborn.

The Seanchan invaders are heading for Illian—and Rand's army of Asha'man soldiers. When they meet in battle, some of the Asha'man are afflicted by madness, unable to control their channeling and unleashing raw power.

The madness extends to Rand himself. He has been hearing the voice of a man believed to have been the previous Dragon Reborn. Besieged by visions and debilitated whenever he uses the One Power, Rand chooses to attack the Seanchan with Callandor. The sword consumes him with a berserker rage, felling ally and enemy alike. And when he regains his senses, Rand finds himself less trusted by those who were once the most loyal.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

Loved it as always.

A little short compared to the others. A good addition to the great book series.

Epic tale, poor recording quality.

Another fantastic installation. If you're eight books in, I don't know that there's much I can say to convince you as you're either already hooked or hate-reading your way to revenge on Jordan's memory. That being said, I'm writing a review to say that this is the first book in this series where the recording itself has quality issues. I wouldn't say kips, rewinds, and glitches plague this recording, but there are definitely enough to distract and frustrate... especially when they happen during critical scenes. It's a bummer.

Probably the last good book Robert Jordan wrote

In some ways I found this book to be among the best he's written, but I did skip a couple sub-plot chapters.

When the author sticks to the main characters the books are excellent, and for the most part that happens in this book. The stories with Rand, Matt and (maybe) Perrin are the characters that make the books great. There are a couple exceptions, but for the most part, his sub-plot stories with the women in the books where they bicker, play mind games with each other, and talk of clothing gets old fast. That content could have been reduced to 1/10th the size for a vast improvement in the read. Basically when Rand or Matt are not the main story, the read stagnates.

After this book Rand largely disappears from the story, and RJ (mostly) transitions into milking the series, rather than writing to finish it like he should have. It's a bit sad, or maybe pathetic is a better word that he left the story unfinished. Brandon Sanderson was a poor choice to finish the series, his writing style is so different that the characters will no longer feel the same,

I'd recommend skipping the 2021 film version of these books, the story line was changed to the point it no longer resembles the original. It's bad, to the point of being offensive to watch; it would be better if they changed the name of the video presentation as it really has nothing to do with Robert Jordan's core writings. And sadly, it's also best to skip the last two books in this series - at least until they find another author (aside from BS) to finish it.

Another good installment, but gah, the ending!

Another great addition to the story. However, I hope you've got the next book ready to go, because this one ends leaving MUCH desired information unknown.

Any complaints about the book?
Only my usual complaint at all these books - the way women are portrayed. This time the book focused on how women have no control over keeping food in their mouths. I understand throwing up after a huge battle or motion sickness, but come on. Why are women throwing up during a normal conversation? I've never seen it. No matter how bad the conversation, it just doesn't happen. Yet, again, this book portrays women so... illogically. The writer has a decent grasp of men, but no idea about women.

Still, even with this complaint, it only partially detracts from the overall book.

So, if you've liked the other books, do keep reading! Just make sure you've got the next book ready to go because this ending isn't quite as tidy as the prior books in the series.

Good Book (if you skip forward when Kate talks)

Elaine's character/storyline is garbage. Egwene's is boring. I fast-forward until I hear Michael Kramer again.

The slog dont be starting here, burn my soul

2nd listen though and I was dreading this book because everyone said it was unbearable and that the plot doesn’t move at all. I disagree. Interesting things with Rand throughout the book. Large world events happening. Explanations of both white and black tower goings on. I enjoyed it!
