Publisher's summary
Color explodes in the night sky, every boom and spray of lights getting louder cheers from the happy crowd. But two little girls are hiding in fear. “I want my mommy,” Abby whispers. A tear falls down her cheek as she clutches her sister’s hand and darkness finally falls....
When six-year-old Abby and nine-year-old Thea are snatched from a crowd at a fireworks display, Detective Nikki Hunt is determined to return the sweet sisters, with golden curls and laughing smiles, to their desperate mother, Britney. The last person to see them alive witnessed the girls being led toward the docks by someone they seemed to know.
As Nikki begins her interviews, she’s shocked to learn that Britney has a dark secret. Ten years ago she ran away from Thea’s biological father, a man Britney claims was controlling and dangerous. Certain he must have taken the girls, Nikki urges the state troopers in nearby Thief River Falls to search the isolated ranch where he lives. But he is devastated to hear the girls are missing and had no idea that Thea was even his daughter....
Then a witness comes forward claiming they saw a young boy clutching Thea’s little pink backpack at the fireworks. Nikki knows he’s the key to finding the girls alive, but she has no idea that someone on her team will do anything to keep his identity a secret. Unable to trust those closest to her, can Nikki unravel the truth and save Thea and Abby before their innocent lives are lost?
An absolutely gripping and totally addictive thriller from USA Today best seller Stacy Green. Fans of Lisa Regan, Rachel Caine, and Melinda Leigh will devour this thriller in one sitting!

Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. My husband is a doctor. He’s smart and charming, and everybody trusts him. Except me. On the surface, it looks like I have it all–the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect life. But it’s far from the truth. Doctor Drew Devlin is not the respectable figure he makes out to be. The reason we moved to this beautiful, old property with a gorgeous view of the sea was because we needed to put our past behind us. It should’ve been a fresh start for us both.

Finished in one day!
I stumbled upon this series a couple of months ago and finished listening to all 6 books in a week. The narrator is one of my favorites and combined with Stacy Green's stories makes these audiobooks hard to put down. When I heard book 7 was coming out 7/25/23 I immediately preordered it! It did not disappoint! I can't wait for book 8!

Annoying Narration
If you are going to tell a story about an actual place, you should use the correct pronunciations. It's EdIna, not EdEEna. Also, why make the children sound so sassy when they talk to their mom? Not all children behave badly.

ANOTHER EXCELLENT THRILLER BY STACY GREEN!
Like other reviewers, I chewed right through this book in just one day (like a dieter with NO self control!) and then felt sad that the whole book was gone leaving myself nothing to look forward to the next day.
I was hooked from page one until the the very last page. I sincerely hope Ms. Greene is already hard at work on her next book — the wait between her last book and this one seemed to take forever. I guess that old adage, “All good things come to those who wait,” is true.
As always the narrator was fantastic and really made the story come alive. She and Ms. Greene’s word’s are the perfect combination…
I highly recommend this book. You can read this as a stand alone, but I also recommend ALL of Ms. Greene’s books just as much as this one. They were all every bit as good!

So well written
Keeps u wondering just how the story will end up. I do like my mystery authors, but I have to say this author is brilliant in her trade. Will definitely read more of her books

Good book
Got d book, but not the best in her series. Definitely kept me entertained, although I felt it lacked some intensity as a thriller book.

Nikki is on the hunt once more!
Great story! Two little girls go missing and Nikki is on the hunt! She finds herself stuck in the middle of the sheriff and new police chief while trying to solve the case. The girls mother has been excommunicated from a Mormon sect so they are on Nikki’s radar…or is it one of their father’s many exes? One thing for sure…Nikki will get to the truth.
