Both logical and clever!P

Well, the core characters remain almost painfully, predictable in repeated circumstances, they are stretched or wrong footed when new characters and situations arrive. I love that every case is unique and offers twists and turns I never see coming.

Well crafted!

Another excellent story by Joy Ellis. Her writing skills become more refined with each novel. An excellent blend of reality, fantasy and the human equation. Hard to put down. You won’t see the end coming.

A police procedural with heart

I enjoy these mysteries and will read more of her books. That said I am beginning to find the ways that her characters are “sensitive” and take care of and care for each other a little bit saccharine. I like very much that her cops are human, form real loyalties and affections and question themselves. That said after reading a lot of her books these kindnesses and the way they are described are becoming a bit formulaic in the way they are written.
In this particular novel I found myself siding with the antagonist in his love of nature and willingness to kill to protect it. I wonder if this will ring a bell for other readers as our earth becomes harder and harder to live on because of the damage we have done to our ecosystem. I’m not sure this was Ellis’ intention, but I liked the way this particular story pushed me to commiserate with the views of a dreadful sadistic killer. A good exercise in characterization. I think as times change so will the lessons in this story.

Another great storyline

I enjoyed this book as much as I have enjoyed all the others. I hope we haven’t seen the last of a couple of characters but it may be wishful thinking. If you like a good mystery you’ll like this book

Wonderful Procedural

I’ve loved all of the books/audiobooks in this series. They are interesting, well-written, and the characters are wonderful. The narrator does a great job as well. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Another good Nikki Galena tale

This one was a bit strange. I had to back up and relisten several times to make sure I was understanding who was doing what. But it all came together well in the end.

End of a great series

Having listened to all 13 books in this series, I am really sad that it has ended. As with the other books, the ending was unexpected! Personally I think it would be difficult to read /listen to one of the books as a stand alone without the benefit of the previous books.

There are times in this book that I wanted to throttle Nikki because of her rigid attitude on certain issues, and her impatience with people was annoying. However Easter helped with his calming presence.

I not only recommend this book but the series as well!
