Publisher's summary

Only his memories can save her…

A great primal power has risen. The Queen of Flesh and Fire has become the Primal of Blood and Bone—the true Primal of Life and Death. And the battle Casteel, Poppy, and their allies have been fighting has only just begun. Gods are awakening across Iliseeum and the mortal realm, readying for the war to come.

But when Poppy falls into stasis, Cas faces the very real possibility that the dire, unexpected consequences of what she is becoming could take her away from him. Cas is given some advice, though—something he plans to cling to as he waits to see her beautiful eyes open once more: Talk to her.

And so, he does. He reminds Poppy how their journey began, revealing things about himself that only Kieran knows in the process. But it’s anybody’s guess what she’ll wake to or exactly how much of the realm and Cas will have changed when she does.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout revisits Poppy and Casteel’s epic love story in the next installment of the Blood and Ash series. But this time, Hawke gets to tell the tale.

Critic reviews

“Narrator Tim Campbell returns to the role of Casteel Da'Neer in the fifth book in the Blood and Ash series.… Tim Campbell captures the sarcastic and flirtatious sides of the prince. Campbell's sonorous voice is as easy to fall in love with as the character of Casteel, making Campbell the perfect casting choice.”AudioFile Magazine

“Expertly and vividly performed with the impressive narrative vocal styles of Tim Campbell, this…will have a very special attraction to fans of vampire romance fantasy fiction. Original, self-contained, and a must for the growing legions of Jennifer L. Armentrout fans.”Midwest Book Review

Cliffhanger

Liked Cas’ perspective. It was a good book. It’s a good filler book and the ending to me is a good starter point for the next.

Loved the book but I hated the ending

It was amazing as usual. But it left me wanting too much more. It felt rather disappointing that we didn’t get to hear Poppy speak or anything. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book. This one just felt unfinished.

I Expected More

I was a bit underwhelmed by this installment. I really didnt need another point of view of the story; that could have been extrapolated easily or that can come as a spinoff when the whole story had been told. it just felt like a holding book pending when the story was ready to continue. Would have preferred the story progressed more and Cas' point of view kept to a minimum. I only really liked the 1st, 2nd and last chapters. This is the first time Jen has not impressed me so I hope the next books are back to her normal standard or far better.

His POV

Honestly would not have got this had i read the description. I pre-ordered because i love this series and was eager to move forward. I am not a fan of a retelling from a different POV and outside of about 30 minutes, the rest a unnecessary recap. There is s bit of a cliff hanger that leaves you anticipating the next book, but i dont think that’s enough for the cost. Plus throw in this ‘recap’ doesn’t go far into how the last in the series ended. Tim Campbell narration improved somewhat Still not my favorite.

Engrossing and Delightful

Loved this POV retelling, and I was pleasantly surprised that it added such richness to the story while also sharing new details of the main storyline as well. I wasn’t expecting it to continue the narrative so that was a wonderful treat. Very steamy and well written. I can’t wait for more!

Interesting

I found Cas’ POV interesting. It explains how he became so sappy, and I loved it!
