Story
Elisabeth Scrivener is finally settling into her new life with sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn. Now that their demon companion Silas has returned, so has scrutiny from nosy reporters hungry for gossip about the city’s most powerful sorcerer and the librarian who stole his heart. But something strange is afoot at Thorn Manor: the estate’s wards, which are meant to keep their home safe, are acting up and forcibly trapping the Manor's occupants inside. Surely it must be a coincidence that this happened just as Nathaniel and Elisabeth started getting closer to one another.

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his 18th year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. Story
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Publisher's summary
“If you are looking for magic you will find it inside this book. Sorcery of Thorns is a bewitching gem, full of slow burning romance, loyal friendships, and extraordinary world building. I absolutely loved every moment of this story.” (Stephanie Garber, number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Caraval series)
From the New York Times best-selling author of An Enchantment of Ravens comes an imaginative fantasy about an apprentice at a magical library who must battle a powerful sorcerer to save her kingdom.
All sorcerers are evil. Elisabeth has known that as long as she has known anything. Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeer’s Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among the tools of sorcery - magical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather. She hopes to become a warden, charged with protecting the kingdom from their power.
Then an act of sabotage releases the library’s most dangerous grimoire. Elisabeth’s desperate intervention implicates her in the crime, and she is torn from her home to face justice in the capital. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demonic servant, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy. Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but so could the world along with them.
As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything she’s been taught - about sorcerers, about the libraries she loves, even about herself. For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed and a future she could never have imagined.
Editor's Pick
Triggered the binge mode
"There’s a lot of really cool things going on here, but what really got me was that there are magic books in this story. They’re called grimoires, and they’re what sorcerers read to learn magic. They’re like the books at Hogwarts, but with even more personality. They can talk, and they need to be cared for, so being a librarian is far from a leisurely job. That’s what our main character, Elisabeth, is training to be when the action happens—it’s a librarian adventure fantasy story! If that isn’t catnip for us YA fantasy lovers, I don’t know what is. This listen, with Emily Ellet at the helm as narrator, promises much, and it follows through from beginning to end."

Artemisia is training to be a Gray Sister, a nun who cleanses the bodies of the deceased so that their souls can pass on; otherwise, they will rise as ravenous, hungry spirits. She would rather deal with the dead than the living, who whisper about her scarred hands and troubled past. When her convent is attacked by possessed soldiers, Artemisia defends it by awakening an ancient spirit bound to a saint’s relic. It is a revenant, a malevolent being whose extraordinary power almost consumes her - but death has come, and only a vespertine has any chance of stopping it.

I was enchanted from the beginning. the characters were believeable and fantastic, their triuumphs and sorrows felt so real.

Enjoyable, verrrrrrry unique
I liked this book, it wasn't anything outstanding but I found the magic system to be easy enough to understand. I loved the grimore idea, I found them intriguing and wished that there was more description as to when, where and why they were created and how the demon realm came to be.
I enjoyed the main characters. The romance was cheesy or forced and their development was fluid. I loved Silus, he was very interesting. I would have liked to get more information about his background with the Thorne family.
I was very excited to read this book at first and it did not disappoint on story telling. I gave it 4 stars because there was a lack of world building and back story that made me have to fill in some blanks myself and made the ending anti-climactic and the villains plot not make any real sense. Maybe it did but I didn't catch it properly because unimportant scenes where drawn out. The areas that could have used more storytelling were replaced with trivial scenes that could have been removed. I was a bit disappointed with the ending, There was very little action when it could have been a fall out demon battle. That would have given it 5 stars...but instead we got the opposite and the ending came in a flash of light..literally.
So it was too long with added plot points thrown in but not fully explored and parts that were not explained when they should have been. Maybe there is going to be a sequel..which I might check out, but I wont be re-reading this one anytime soon.

I loved this book!!
I really enjoyed this book. To me it seemed to have some refreshingly new ideas. I thought the narrator did a great job as well. I read another book by the same author and loved that one as well. I hope she comes out with many more and soon!!

Absolutely Amazing!!
Ms. Emily Ellet gave an astounding performance, not as just a narrator, but as the voice for every character and thought within this book's pages. The book itself has several moments that are lingering in my mind as I write this review now, having just finished the epilogue. I assure you, this book is bewitching in an endearing way, and you will most certainly fall in love with Elisabeth, Nathaniel, Silas, and all of the other wonderful characters in this tome.
As someone who has struggled to find a book that has satisfied my thirst for a Harry Potter- like book without having to endorse the Author-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named of that particular series, my hunger has been more than saited, and I now realize that there are fantasy books more well written and performed than Harry Potter.

Soo good, wish there was more!!
Really enjoyed this book. I love how both leads were strong and sensible charectors. I didn't feel cheated by stupid heroines who are always making stupid choices. Kept me hooked all the way to the end, I honestly really didnt want it to end.
Great narration, well written. First time reading from the author, will be reading more from her

The details are vivid and leave you wanting more
So very well written and well performed. The narrator began so softly that it took me a bit to get j to the story, but we’ll worth the wait. So we’ll performed and very interesting read. I’ll look for more by this author and narrator.

I've listened to soooo many different titles on here and all I can say is that this book eclipses them all.

Awful whiny narration
The story line was ok. Seems to have been etched from the same model as every other female protagonist fantasy produced lately… way too predictable. But the worst was the narration. I pictured the main character as being wild and strong, but the narrator made her sound weak, stupid AND whiny. I had to power through it to finish.
