Publisher's summary

In this fifth edition of Basic Economics, Thomas Sowell revises and updates his popular book on commonsense economics, bringing the world into clearer focus through a basic understanding of the fundamental economic principles and how they explain our lives. Drawing on lively examples from around the world and from centuries of history, Sowell explains basic economic principles for the general public in plain English.

Basic Economics, which has now been translated into six languages and has additional material online, remains true to its core principle: that the fundamental facts and principles of economics do not require jargon, graphs, or equations and can be learned in a relaxed and even enjoyable way.

Much Information About Factual Economic.

Much details about how economics works. I am glad I got this because I got fed up with people, news, media, and social groups talking about how the economy should work when after hearing this audio book I can gladly confirm, Many ignorant people do not understand that there is always a trade off to everything. It can get boring if you are not into learning and the voice for this book is calming but can get in the way at times. Highly recommend this book if you want to try to learn some of the many types of economics, pros, cons, cause and effect, and how some economic sayings can be misunderstood or plain out lies that the news will try to narrate at times.

Very thorough

Even though economics is a very dry subject to me, I kept listening to this because of what I was learning. I enjoyed this book even if it was a marathon; seemed like it was never going to end.

Required Reading

I liked the short history lessons from actual events that backed up claims for how basic economics operates. Long, but easy to understand.

Worth the time!

Don’t be intimidated by the length of this book. Thomas Sowell presents economics in a clear and patient manner. This was also the first performance of a nonfiction work by Stefan Rudnicki, that I’ve heard. He has the perfect voice and delivery for Thomas Sowell’s writing.

Can’t believe how fascinating this book was.

I never imagined I would devour an economics book like I did this one. So interesting, I found myself excited to keep listening, and would often listen late into the night. Who else can say that about a textbook? 10/10 recommend.

I must teach my children everything in this book.

This was one of the best and most useful books on economics I have ever read. It manages to take theory and demonstrate how it plays out in economic and policy decisions that we confront every day. It is one lesson after another in learning how yo separate intention from outcome. Simply incredible.
