"Pleasingly subversive."--New York Times Book Review
One of Library Journal's Best Romances of 2023!
A BookList Editor's Pick of 2023!
A forbidden love between a Mexican heiress and a shrewd British politician makes for a tantalizing Victorian season.
Ana María Luna Valdés has strived to be the perfect daughter, the perfect niece, and the perfect representative of the powerful Luna family. So when Ana María is secretly sent to London with her sisters to seek refuge from the French occupation of Mexico, she experiences her first taste of freedom far from the judgmental eyes of her domineering father. If only she could ignore the piercing looks she receives across ballroom floors from the austere Mr. Fox.
Gideon Fox elevated himself from the London gutters by chasing his burning desire for more: more opportunities, more choices. For everyone. Now, as a member of Parliament, Gideon is on the cusp of securing the votes he needs to put forth a measure to abolish the Atlantic slave trade once and for all—a cause that is close to his heart as the grandson of a formerly enslaved woman. The charmingly vexing Ana María is a distraction he must ignore.
But when Ana María finds herself in the crosshairs of a nefarious nobleman with his own political agenda, Gideon knows he must offer his hand as protection . . . but will this Mexican heiress win his heart as well?
Critic reviews
“A lush, immersive, and evocative romance full of fascinating historical detail. An enchanting love story with a fierce, complex heroine and a swoon worthy hero. The Luna sisters have arrived…and the London season will never be the same.”—Adriana Herrera, USA Today bestselling author of A Caribbean Heiress in Paris
“This delectable Victorian Latinx romance from De la Rosa will delight fans of sexy historical romances with strong social justice plots such as Alyssa Cole’s ‘The Loyal League’ titles and Evie Dunmore’s ‘A League of Extraordinary Women’ series.”—Library Journal, starred review
"When a historical romance can combine a swoon-worthy love story with a rich historical setting, it goes on my keeper shelf. Ana María and The Fox does this and so much more. It was absolutely delightful to watch Ana María’s bond with her sisters grow all while the reserved hero is falling head over heels in love with her."—Harper St. George, author of The Duchess Takes a Husband

Story
Lord Nathaniel Harte, the disagreeable duke of Beswick, spends his days smashing porcelain, antagonizing his servants, and snarling at anyone who gets too close. With a ruined face like his, it's hard to like much about the world - especially smart-mouthed harpies (with lips better suited to kissing than speaking) who brave his castle with indecent proposals. But Lady Astrid Everleigh will stop at nothing to see her younger sister safe from a notorious scoundrel, even if it means offering herself up on a silver platter to the forbidding Beast of Beswick himself.

Gracelynn Ferguson never expected to take her elder sister’s place as a Christmas bride, but when she’s thrust into the choice, she will trust in her faithful novels and overactive imagination to help her not only win Frederick’s heart but also to solve the murder mystery of Havensbrook Hall.

Story
It is 1502, and Rodrigo Borgia, a self-confessed womanizer and master of political corruption, is now on the papal throne as Alexander VI. His daughter Lucrezia, age 22 - already three times married and a pawn in her father's plans - is discovering her own power. And then there is his son Cesare Borgia, brilliant, ruthless, and increasingly unstable; it is his relationship with Machiavelli that gives the Florentine diplomat a master class in the dark arts of power and politics.

A costar on Broadway, a member of Lucille Ball’s historic Desilu workshop, and finally a primetime TV actor, Dick had hustled to get his big break. Jen Dixon is not your typical Kansas City kindergarten class mom - or mom in general. Jen already has two college-age daughters by two different (probably) musicians, and it's her second time around the class mom block with five-year-old Max - this time with a husband and father by her side. Though her best friend and PTA president sees her as the "wisest" candidate for the job (or oldest), not all of the other parents agree.

Story
Jude and Lauren don't have much in common, but maybe that's why they've been best friends since the third grade. Through ups and downs, they've been by each other's sides. But now? They’re broke, single, and do the only thing that makes sense - move in together, just like they talked about when they were teenagers. Except when they were younger, the plan didn't include a five-year-old daughter and more baggage than their new townhouse can hold.

A sweet slow burn romance enhanced by a wonderful narration
Ruby Hunt does a great job with the narration. Although the story was a bit slow at the beginning, I think it picks up to a sweet slow burn romance. I loved both main characters. I also enjoyed how De La Rosa included Spanish and the true history of this time. If you like slow burn romance and history of this time, you will enjoy the story and the narration.

Cute
So I like the history, story is pretty straightforward. Girl and guy fall in “love” at first sight. They can’t be together due to work and a prior engagement. Then they just happen to bump into each other on so many occasions that it must have been fate. They fall in love and get Married due to special circumstance and they battle the bad guys trying to keep them apart. A true recipe for a love story. I really like it, but I wanted to be surprised. I wanted more. Great writing and excellent history.

Type of historical romance I always wanted.
The first story of the Luna sister series. I am a lover of historical romances but always felt unseen in them until now. I loved the backstory but more than that I loved how true to real Latina these characters were especially in relation to how their roles in their family would be.

Bridgerton but make it so much better!
The romance between Ana Maria and señor Fox was absolutely sizzling. I was here for it from beginning to end and am very excited what else is in store for the Luna sisters. The narration on this book was absolutely phenomenal! Hat's off for such an amazing performance on bringing this story to life!
